Janet RitenourAreas of Expertise/Research Interests: Maternity nursing, alternative therapies, women’s health

What do you like most about teaching at Penn State Fayette? The students. They inspire me to continue improving my teaching skills. The small classes. This allows me to know my students by name, not just as a number in class.

What do you like most about Penn State Fayette students? Their ability to juggle many responsibilities and still be involved in campus life.

What is your favorite class to teach, and why? It is a tie between Nursing 113 (Nursing Care of the Childbearing Family) and Nursing 401 (Adult Health Concepts). Nursing 113 is exciting and ever changing. Nursing 401 informs the students about all the alternative therapies available that can be utilized as an adjunct to traditional Western medicine.

What is your favorite class project, and why? The student presentations about alternative therapies. The students research a topic not discussed in length in the traditional nursing program, but therapies many of our clients seek.

What is your favorite quote?
"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."—Maya Angelou
